What an amazing city Philidelphia. I was on vacation there a couple years ago and we were taking a stroll off the beaten path downtown. Our destination was the Philidellphia Museum of Art to see the Cezanne exhibit (which we ended up not doing…looooong wait times to get in).

On the way we tooks some not so tourest travelled side streets (I was looking for some non-tourist type of shots) when we came across this fantastic bit of street sculpture entitled “Freedom” by famed Zenos Frudakis. The figure you see here starts on one end of the wall totally engulfed. The following figure is leaning out at the waist. This one was stretching out as you see. The final figure was standin in the middle of the sidewalk.

Back in 2010, one of our assigned topics for the the Schenectady Photographic Society monthly print competition was the topic “Blue”. After much consideration on how to approach this, I came up with this image. It actually took first place much to my surprise and delight.

The image is not Photoshopped other then for some detail sharpening. It is as it appears. Shot inside a tabletop tent using 3 strobes (sb-900 as key, and 2 sb-800’s as fill and back lighting. I added blue gels to the back and fill lights. The backlight was shot from the rear facing foward thru some plants I had on the table to give it some character and texture. The glass, btw, was already blue. The planter bulbs were various colors.

Shot with my Nikon 700 using a 24-70mm at 1/40th sec on f5.6 at 50mm with iso 200.
